I'm with you on this. The replies arguing moral superiority of the US make my stomach turn. I'm glad Putin is seen as a pariah by much of the world, but I'm disturbed that did not happened with the US and Iraq (not to mention all the coups we've supported....)

I think many Iraqis might beg to differ with some of what you've said here. What is happening in Ukraine is horrific. One stark difference between the Iraq War and Ukraine though is that the world generally sees Putin as a pariah and is onboard with extensive sanctions. When the US invaded Iraq on a COMPLETE LIE of weapons of mass destruction, there were many other nations that, not only did not treat the US as a pariah, but also joined the attacks.

By this logic of how Hussein provoked the issue, THE WORLD should be dropping bombs on the US for provoking issues. That's not happening, and the US certainly did not face the level of pushback to Iraq that Putin is. I'm not saying Putin shouldn't get the pushback he is: he should. I think we need to be honest though that the US was able to attack Iraq unprovoked on a lie of weapons of mass destruction -and have other nations join the attack too- because of its super-power status. Hussein pledging supporting for suicide bombers in no way justifies bombing the shit out of his country.

They are much louder and get coverage that they shouldn't. Same with fascists in general. And yet only a small percent of those eligible for boosters have gotten them. People are fine with yearly flu shots, or even daily insulin, but boosters get panties wrung in a bunch.

Agreed the problems are global. Other countries can be better at things to hold nonsense in check (e.g., more transparency in campaign financing and the existence of various social programs). That needs to be ramped up and I don't know if that will happen soon enough. The existence of billionaires buying UAE or Portuguese citizenship though makes me fantasize about covid taking the human species as a whole down, because we are such a fucked up species.

I think it may be more a matter of how much relative power a country has rather than a specific list of more harmful or less harmful nations. I worry that any country with superpower status could be horrible to the rest of the world and get away with it. In terms of carbon footprint at least though, which is on my mind because of all the fires, floods, heatwaves, and epidemics, I put all other countries on that list, lol. That said, I totally want to move to Iceland before the 2024 US presidential election when all hell may break out in the US. European countries have wrought a shit ton of harm on the world and are not the just nations that they claim to be, but Iceland was not a colonial power like other European nations and honestly I want to live in a cooler country because of climate change.

Lol I was thinking in terms of how vile so many people in the US are (as SAV gives us some snapshots of), the massive carbon footprint of the US, how the US bullies the world and consistently abuses human rights but isn't called out on it, and the threat that inequity in the US poses to the rest of the world in terms of spawning firms like Cambridge Analytica as well as deregulation and straight fascism.

Agree with this. I'm child free too. Pandemics and heat waves are connected to climate change, but the average human is apparently too stupid to understand this and is easily manipulated. The fact that there are so many extremists I do not think reflects well on human nature either. I don't want to add to the shit pot or be responsible for another person suffering when humanity is clearly entering its death throes. (I expect we will be extinct within millennia due to climate change impacts.). Between not wanting to add to the suffering or being responsible for another person living to experience suffering, and having had abusive piece of shit parents (who were and are fascists), there is no way I am choosing to have kids.
