I'm seeing most of my senior-citizen-age pals posting Halloween party pics on social media. These are folks who have for the most part been uber careful so far, but they are letting their hair down this weekend for some reason. It's puzzling. Waiting now for the next inevitable round of positive test pics. As for moi, I'm sticking with doing All The Things, N95 anywhere indoors that doesn't have HEPA units, and even outdoors if walking through a crowd, vaxxed and boosted, flu shot and keeping to myself. Hold the line folks, we're far from done here! I'm good with staying home. I have wine and snacks! 🍷🥓🍤🍫 https://www.spiegel.de/international/world/epidemiologist-jeremy-farrar-on-the-next-viral-threat-i-fear-we-are-at-the-beginning-of-an-era-of-pandemics-a-564b1dae-1c3d-4eb3-b76f-f3c5da6e8289
A couple I'm friends with just got on a plane and flew to NYC for a little holiday. Really hope they don't bring back the BQ version (that's kicking off there right now) on the return trip. FB pics from the subway with nobody masked on the platform, crammed into the train. Ugh. 😑
I'm doing pretty much all those things. No masking outdoors, but I haven't been around an outdoor crowd in a long time. There's one exception though. When I visited my sister and her family this summer, I was obvs unmasked indoors with them. They're all fully boosted but only the parents mask in public indoor situations. The teen kids (who each separately have had a super mild case of covid in the past) don't. I was boosted 2 weeks prior to my visit, and with no comorbidities, it was a risk I was willing to take.
No one seems to mask indoors anymore. I'm the last holdout at my workplace, though I do unmask when I'm alone in my office with the door closed. Everyone there is vaxxed and as an electronics engineering lab, we have great air filtration. I don't feel at high personal risk but nonetheless I would really like to avoid long covid. And I DO NOT want to pass the disease on.
A lot of the people who would have called you a "sheep" won't say anything to you now because they're dead from covid.
