Can someone please explain Joe Manchin to me? I don't understand that man, at all. Is he a plant by the republicans (or whatever that would be)? I really, truly do not understand him. Thanks in advance.
I can relate to the coal workers. I worked at a newspaper and we were doing great! Until things inevitably changed, and we weren't doing so great. Just like Big Coal, we could see the Internet coming for YEARS. Democrats seem to understand that industries come and go, and sometimes we need to adapt and learn a new skill, go back to school, find a new trade, which I did. And I'm not mad about it.
Boy, this would take a long, long time to explain. And then it still boils down to money and stupid leadership that buys into lies. Ask me why the DNC purposefully fucked over Sanders when it was clear he was winning these areas that then went to Dump. It’s a complex set of fuckery and oligarchy and who controls the coin. Manchin is a fuckwad that is playing on emotion to keep his own big oil money flowing in. But he uses the same playbook as the Rs. Coal is emotional in the USA. The workers have been used for generations. These people are proud of black lung. We should be investing and lifting up these people. They fought the company store, ffs. But Rs have worked to punish the people and blame the Dems. Even healthcare wasn’t expanded to them. It’s incredibly complicated but it’s important to the Rs that they hurt the workers and get them to vote against their own best interests. Hate the other, be afraid. Manchin does the same shit. He’s got to go. A big dirt nap is in order.
West Virginia is deep Republican country. Manchin is essentially a sane Republican, which is how he is able to win in his deeply red state.
If a standard Democrat ran for Manchin's seat, they'd lose by 20+ points.
While I dislike Manchin, I fully understand it is either him or a Republican, and I'll take him.
Now, explain WHY the people in his state vote the way they do? So much has been written on this. I'll leave that one to others.
