I also recommend TWiV. The latest TWiV update by Dr Griffin (update number 114) was especially good…at about 10 minute mark, he talked about a study of trained dogs sniffing out SARS CoV 2 infection. Their success rate came in at between 92-98%. Daniel covered a lot in this episode, including what to do if one tests positive, paxlovid, children and COVID etc.
My brother gave me a thumb drive loaded with some 30 episodes of The Infinite Monkey Cage, a science podcast featuring 2 wacky Brits and a changing panel of non science, arts, music, and miscellaneous well informed and often quite funny people.
Each week a different current scientific topic (think Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me) only with mostly barely intelligible British and other accents, but hugely entertaining, funny and informative.
My wife and I made the 11 hour drive home barely speaking a word, it was so good. I immediately copied that thumb and sent it to several friends, all with the same response... Awesome!
The Daily (NYT) from yesterday. Episode is called One Million. It’s stories of the deaths by their loved ones. A few stories are frustrating. One made me angry because her family really dropped the ball. A couple are heart-wrenching because of the guilt the survivors are carrying. Very good episode that is a sobering 30minutes. Every fuckstick AVer should have to listen.
For me, podcasts have killed political talk radio, sports talk radio and music on the radio...and I'm thrilled. While I still listen to music at home, my truck is ALWAYS playing a podcast via bluetooth and my iphone. I can never go back. On the rare instances where I allow an exhaust emitting fellow human to ride with me, they better be interesting or they're listening to the second half of that Dateline episode!
