Old thread - new study that shouldn't be a surprise to most of us here:

The US had ~1.18M excess deaths over first 2 years, and there's a study out from the University of Virginia, published in the JAMA Health Forum, that estimates that anywhere between ~120k to ~250k of those deaths could have been avoided simply by having mask mandates all over the US that were similar to those in MA and the North-Eastern States, which had the strictest mandates and compliance:

Mississippi, which had the least restrictive policies as well as the lowest vaccine uptake, had greater than ~5x the Excess Death rates of Massachusetts, which had the highest compliance. The differences are fairly stark and startling - the worst states in the US were at 3rd-world levels of Covid mortality, despite world-class centers of healthcare excellence like Baylor and Emory in the southern states.

Thanks for adding that.

The US was particularly bad at following any protocols in place, but we in Canada had provinces which were also lax and had high death rates in comparison.

In the early stages of the pandemic, "Canada was among the world’s most successful countries in minimizing COVID-19 mortality while the USA was among the world’s least successful countries." We somehow managed to catch up near the end... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10034245/

I do hope that there is much more research on the rats (depicted below) who helped COVID kill with their misinformation and anti everything crusades. Although we saw many here, karma did not do a very good job in making sure the ones who FA were the ones who FO.
