I am so sick of seeing pictures in which pictures of naked women are posted and people (presumably men) discuss them and salivate over them.
It is not acceptable and it makes me very angry. When I objected to such a post a few days ago, some idiot asked me if I liked a picture of a semi-naked man. The answer was a resounding NO.
Why would I want to look at a picture of a semi-naked man? It just demonstrates the undeniable fact that men equate pictures of the human body with attractiveness and sexiness.
Men do not appear to realise that women don't find men's bodies, naked or otherwise, the sina qua non of how a relationship gets going.
Attractiveness, from a woman's point of view, has more to do with a man's personality and sense of humour than his physical characteristics.
In any case, it is absolutely not acceptable on any site to see pictures of naked or semi-naked woman. It's misogynistic and sexist.
That Whataboutism is for 4-Chan and Reddit...
The objectifying of women will simply never end. What I personally find the most offensive and misogynistic is the excessive use of the word c*nt. It's just never okay, no matter how despicable the person is that it's being used to describe. And it is used constantly on this site, unfortunately.
I don't think of it so much as misogyny per se as I think of it as objectification, where the superficial appearance of the object determines its value. Where the person becomes an "it" much like where the slave who was healthy with good muscles was valued much higher than a smaller less robust slave; where a woman with large breasts is more valuable than a woman with smaller breasts or a man with a large penis is more valuable than a man with more modest genitalia. By and large people don't particularly like being turned into objects and hence why many people prefer to avoid those who operate from such a value system.
It has been scientifically established that the male eros is grounded in vision, while the female's is grounded in emotion and touch. These are generalities, of course. Everyone is different. I would never venture to proclaim what all men and women find attractive, much less complain about it.
I haven't seen this shit, luckily for me. Gross.
sorry if I inadvertently offended you.
“Attractiveness, from a woman's point of view, has more to do with a man's personality and sense of humour than his physical characteristics.”
While I totally agree, I believe there are plenty of shallow women for whom looks are important. Just as there are, hopefully, men who don’t see any use for those pictures.
I move past those quickly, not reading, not responding. As Pro, said, we are a varied group. But definitely, those pictures are offensive and tasteless, as are a number of comments that I also move past.
Humm. I thought the word was applied as a hatred of women.
I could more relate to the objectification of women by men as perhaps shallow..
I guess I don't quite get it. Men, and some places women, go to the beach and swim topless but I don't see that as somehow expressing hatred.
Women and men get body modifications and wear clothing and makeup(usually women) specifically to draw attention to their attributes. Muslim fundies dress their women in tent-like clothing to dissuade any flaunting or expression of sexuality through dress. Disclaimer: I know little about this culture.
Perhaps an overtly puritanical religious person would object and say it was misogynistic the way people express their sexuality/ personality through their clothing style or the observation of such.
If it's there to see, I'll probably look but that doesn't mean I'm expressing hatred or disrespect. My ,02.
A tough one on an open forum. I agree the use of certain images are or can be offensive. Unfortunately and fortunately we here are a very diverse group who find different ways to express ourselves mired in a one-dimensional media. It is always a challenge when a diverse mix of personalities and cultures come together over an emotionally wrought subject matter. Self-policing for images and words is imperfect at best, and many do not have the cultural sophistication to recognize nor understand their posts may actually be or may be construed to be misogynistic. Another example of the tension between allowing free and open discussion versus censoring for inappropriate (or perceived to be inappropriate) commentary. Don’t have a good answer for this—I merely scroll on or drop a few words if truly concerned. Not to minimize your concerns as they are valid.
