True, many of my suggestions are ridiculous, but many are not. Those should be implemented as soon as we get the fucking Republicans out of Congress. Until then, vote the fuckers out of every single elective office you can do. There's one solution to this murderous rampage and it's getting rid of the people who foster it every fucking day with their little pals in the NRA.
Those are some great ideas. While the women-only one is unrealistic, I’m SMH about the obvious taxation idea; at the very least, this should be implemented. That one will be going to my representatives in Florida in just a minute. 😉
@Keepin’it real I did throw out some real doozies, but the ones I want really implemented, would be the revocation of the NRA's tax exempt status, and outright ban on all assault weapons of any kind, and ban the manufacture of them as well.
Legal and financial penalties for any manufacturer or dealer for the death of a civilian by another civilian.
It's not that fucking hard. Lucian Truscott wrote in a similar manner today. We're both Army brats and we HATE that assault weapons are in the hands of people just barely functional enough to write their names.
It's the speed that matters. Sure he could have killed as many with a low-caliber 22 varmint rifle. Shoot a knife can even kill 19 people. But it would have taken longer. We would have had loss of life but probably not as many. Just because we can't make things perfect doesn't mean we can't make things better.
Sure I get that. I don't disagree. The gun lobby is powerful. How about this in a semi-auto 22? Link
Edit: My point is that all legislative efforts have proven, more or less, that we can't make it better. As I mentioned, most legislative changes have been cosmetic or made moot via loopholes/workarounds via clever manipulations.
I didn't make it so. The information is the information. The legislative record is the record.
Nazi's parade around publically with all manner of weapons and body armor, in the presence of LEOs. I don't like it but I can't change it. In fact, their right to do so is protected by law. Not too often do you see persons of color do similar without the heavy arm of the law placed on them...or knees placed on necks in other cases for much less threatening behavior.
@Dip Dibbler I agree that any legislative action talked about right now will do buttkiss. But there is legislative action that will. Simply making automatic rifles illegal to buy would be a good start. Holding people accountable if their guns are used in illegal methods might be another. Raising the age of gun ownership. And yes addressing mentally ill issues in this country. We cannot expect communities to deal with their mentally ill members without help or assistance.
An AR-based weapon, like the Daniel pictured here, I don't own one. It, the AR 15, is the civilian version of the Viet Nam era M-16 select-fire military rifle.
Psychos will kill with whatever is on hand e.g. knives, swords, rocks, clubs, cars, bombs, poison, sharpened sticks, whatever.
Frankly, these threats to legislate firearms, which are 99% empty and vapid in effect, send those so inclined into a gun-buying frenzy. Gun sales explode usually and prices go up as fear of being able to buy one in the future is threatened. Some or most changes made through legislation are more or less cosmetic...so the gun looks less miliary. Then other companies sell kits or add-ons to make them look more military or deadly. lol..sorta. Machine gun licenses, full auto, are only affordable to the wealthy.
Other laws exempt American firearms from laws regarding peripherals like muzzle brakes, which minimize the guns kick and make target reacquisition faster (theoretically). Foreign-made guns are penalized so to speak. In the muzzle brake example, if you were to put one on a foreign gun, it could then be illegal and johnny Law could hunt and prosecute you. However, I'm not up on current laws. IMO, overall, most legislation thus far is ineffective and deceptive to pacify those trying or who want to change gun laws by giving them a "something" that doesn't amount to squat in the real world. The cosmetically legislated guns will still kill you as dead as the scarier-looking models. The 18-year-old could have killed as many with a low-caliber 22 varmint rifle.
Sometimes American firearms companies license or purchase the rights to manufacture foreign guns that would be, or have parts that are illegal via legislation. But because these nearly exact same firearms and associated do-hickeys are now owned and manufactured by American companies, they are legal.
It's a game...a BS game but that's the one being played.
disclaimer: I'm neither a firearms nor a legal expert so please validate this info via a reliable authoritative source.
@Dip Dibbler the reality though is that mass shooting events and killings went way down after the assault weapons ban during the Clinton era. It then went through the roof after the ban was allowed to lapse under GQP congress. That is the only real measurement that matters. That and all the data supporting the same effect of bans from other countries.
So I’ve been holding my thoughts on this one because I needed a little time to process. We all know that not one single gvt official in Texass is going to do diddly squat.
All I can hope for now is that every single parent of those poor unfortunate children voted Red.
I want them to KNOW that their dumb asses have voted in the very people complicit in the murder of their children. I want them up all night, every night until their hatred of the party that is in the back pockets of the NRA is more than their hatred of “libtards”
I know this is harsh, but I think it’s the only way out of this.
To the good citizens of the US, I don’t know what to say to you after yet another mass shooting at a school. I want to share an article with you about the first, and only, massacre at a school in the UK and how gun control laws changed after that. I live in Scotland now and I’m sure that the people of Dunblane are reminded of that awful day each and every time that they hear of yet another murderous rampage in a US school. I wish that things could change for you all 💔
We know. We know we suck at this. We're just so fucking dumb here. There are many wonderful things about a multiculturalist nation. But because we have so many cultures, desires, moralities, and people willing to manipulate others based on those, we have a lot of education problems. We are simply nothing like the UK.

@KMR Australia is a proud multicultural nation as well, and managed to pass strict gun controls after the Port Arthur massacre about 20 years ago. We have never had a school shooting. I don’t think it’s the multicultural aspect, I think it’s a case of “follow the money” in the US, and also the way that the idea of owning guns has been sold insiduously to Americans as “their right”. Also, the young perpetrator of this horrendous crime may well have been an untreated psychotic, but that easy access to semi automatic weapons meant that he was able to act on his delusions in the most devastating way possible .
The gunman opened fire at Robb Elementary School - which teaches children aged seven to 10 - in the city of Uvalde before he was killed by law enforcement,
The 18-year-old suspect had a handgun, an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and high-capacity magazines, investigators say [I've seen 100 round drum magazines for sale]
An Uvalde school district police officer, who worked at the school, saw Ramos emerge from the vehicle carrying a rifle and wearing body armour...
The two adults who died were both teachers - Irma Garcia and Eva Mireles.
A US Border Patrol official who was nearby when the shooting began rushed into the school and shot and killed the gunman, who was behind a barricade.
There have already been 27 school shootings this year alone. Young school children routinely rehearse what to do if a gunman enters their classroom.
there is no sign that Democrats will get any closer to passing tighter gun control legislation. Some Republicans are already accusing them of using this latest school shooting to cynically further their own political objectives.
School shootings have become recurring emergencies in the US, with 26 recorded last year, according to EdWeek, an education trade publication.
Guns overtook car crashes to become the leading cause of death for US children and teenagers in 2020, according to data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) last month. On Monday, an FBI report found that "active shooter" rampage attacks have doubled since the coronavirus began in 2020.
Read that story. An 18-year-old kills Gramma and then goes and kills elementary school kids. I wonder, like everyone else, Why? Why kill little kids? Murders and murderers are usually senseless (like the GQP) but this is yet another thing I don't get.

Because I like to write (as many people know) I decided to write an editorial. Think Swift's "A Modest Proposal" for inspiration:

txdavid7579 posted the Amanda Gorman tweeted poem, which I’ve cobbled together below.
The last two lines are so beautiful. Schools scared to death.
The truth is, one education under desks,
Stooped low from bullets;
That plunge when we ask Where our children Shall live & how & if,
"It takes a monster to kill children.
But to watch monsters kill children again and again and do nothing isn’t just insanity – it’s inhumanity...
The truth is, one nation under guns,
What might we be if only we tried.
What might we become if only we’d listen.
He used a Daniel Defense AR style rifle in the Texas attack. Here’s a recent Daniel Defense tweet (now deleted) that is almost prophetic.

And it only took Texas republicans 24 hours to remind us that they don't plan to do anything to make sure this doesn't happen again.
19 children dead and two teachers. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-61573377
Fucking Coward!! A shit licking coward grub.
You never harm children ever! For fuck sake this makes me so angry that I want to cry.
Yes it probably does...This is it! Somedays/times more hellish than other days. Hopefully I'm wrong and heaven is just around the corner.

Eighteen dead children now.
Today I am ashamed to be an American.
