Hey, Tots, been thinking about overworked folks in the pharmacies and was thinking about dropping off a nice treat for pharmacy staff. However, I don’t eat trash food and don’t support feeding garbage to others. What would actually be a nice and healthful thing to receive in a pharmacy? I’m not even down with fruit baskets because fructose metabolism is balls. Suggestions appreciated, my local pharmacists are dealing with hell beyond these vaccinations. The citirs keep pushing their unhoused, untreated and unwell off onto the unincorporated areas. Crime is off the charts as people try to survive without services. Our pharmacists are having to go to work in stores with boarded up windows. It is royally fucked up but we are the magnet for homeless deon around the nation. Makes me wonder if the red states are still putting their problems onto buses and sending them out west? That used to be SOP, wonder if it still is? Anyway, back to the point: ideas?
Thank you for being there for the rest of us. I know words only sound hollow next to the sweat labor and feeling unappreciated at times. Please take plenty of self-care.
I was finally able to snag an appointment for my booster tomorrow given the current demand. It's crazy how far ahead we have to schedule.
The long time pharmacists left my local Safeway. Last year, they did not have the staff to do any shots. I wear a mask, and say please and thank you. We are grateful for you!
Oh wow.I didn't know that about you. I'm very glad that people are coming in for their boosters and vaccines, I'm sorry for the personal toll it's taking on you. PLEASE try and take some personal time if you can. Your physical and mental can be compromised by being over worked and exhausted. Please take care of yourself. It's also a good reminder to all of us who are receiving our vaccines and boosters, to exercise patience and be grateful to those providers.
Thanks for the kind words! It is demoralizing and so many have left for other jobs in the last 2.5 years due to the absolutely horrid conditions. Today as I was being overrun with walk-ins (12 in a row in addition to the 8 appointments) I was told “work harder“ by a dude walking in without an appointment when I explained that 20 people were in line ahead. In addition to the shots, we fill about 600 rx/day. This completely demeaning and unrealistic comment came to me at 4:35pm. My shift was supposed to end at 4, and I’m already working 52 hours this week! Oh yeah, and the most insulting part was that I wasn’t even being paid for the time I was there after 4, because we are already over budget and there were no hours to pay me!!!!
I did tell the guy he could try somewhere else, but he insisted on staying and being an ass.
I almost wanted to stay until he was up just so I could give him his covid shot with a 20 gauge needle!
If you hadn't been in the store, a good old right fist to his mouth would have been appropriate.
But of course you can't..but it sure would be fun to see a pharmacist turn around and actually deck the SOB's who think they're so fucking funny. Then put him in your coat, lead him into the pharmacy and say,
"There you go! Think you can do my job? Go right for it. I'm done!"
Thanks guys for that positive outpouring. Lately I’ve had to readjust my BS- tolerance to next to zero. last week, someone called my tech at the drive-through “A stupid Cunt” because they had to wait in line for their covid test. I pretty much lost it and marched over, cancelled their appointment and told them if I ever saw their name on my schedule again, I would cancel it again! They then started bitching and crying that they were needing the test to fly to visit a dying relative. my answer? ”i don’t care!”
I know this story absolutely doesn’t Surprise Mary Hilton, but many of you guys would be shocked and disgusted by the constant daily abuse.
You were perfectly within your rights because I would have done it, myself! Anyone who wants to berate or insult staff should be cut off at the pass and thrown the hell out of the pharmacy.
I know you and every single pharmacist in existence right now are. There's no let up in the stupid, ignorant and stubborn people who proliferate so widely in our society.
Take a vacation if you can. PTO is a good way to do this.
Too bad you have to come back to work, though.
I got my booster to avoid the rush. After I'm outta there, ain't nothing gonna drag me back into any store without damn good reason.
It's just too damn scary.
Because people just don't understand that almost every pharmacist and his staff are exhausted and want nothing more than peace and quiet from fools.
My local pharmacy staff has been doing an amazing job providing vaccinations and boosters with online appointment scheduling. My husband and I are fully vaxxed and boosted thanks to them, as are our children. We appreciate the hard work you all are doing!
Hey, Tots, when I got my bivalent booster the pharmacist told me that if he could quit, he would. The corporations hired no extra help, just loaded extra work onto you folks. It’s absolute bullshit and taxpayers need to wake up and demand better. These ”partnering with retailer” arrangements just means we pour $ and companies and they squeeze the workers. It’s wrong. The Walgreens site had appointments available for every 15 minutes. With a single qualified staff that was the pharmacist himself. I waited about 2 1/2 hours for my dose and I watched him the whole time. There’s a reason that worker productivity is up: because people are running themselves into the ground. It’s bullshit and I’m sorry.
Walgreens has instituted a maximum limit in some stores of how many shots that can be dispensed during the day-there's just no way any pharmacy can do more than maybe 12 or 15 per day, because they're doing other stuff, too-like dispensing drugs!
I would send you some thoughts and prayers, but I am guessing those won't help?
Instead, I encourage you to remedy the situation that is making you exhausted. Unless you already own the franchise, I would recommend that you flat out tell your boss/owner that you are exhausted and burned out and negotiate a slow down of shot intervals, extra time off, making shots available only on certain days, making walk ins only on those days or making appointment only while you recuperate. (Or whatever you need to be able to alleviate the exhaustion and to function normally)
Pharmacists need to keep their wits about them just as Docs do so that dispensing is safe for everyone. You know this; they all know it, but obviously need a reminder if you are being overworked.
Thanks for giving your all to help people. I hope you know how much you are appreciated and that whatever you choose to do, that you get a much needed break.
I will never understand how people can be rude, much less threatening, to those who are trying to help them. Decent courtesy is absolutely free to give. My goal is to always have people realize I see them as human beings. When the fuck did good manners go out of style?
When Donald Trump told everyone that it was ok to be an asshole. He is one, why not everyone?
Because there are so many goddamned entitled whiny people who think the fucking world revolves around them.
On FB there is a poster named "The Cynical Pharmacist" who posts actual interactions with the general public/nurses/doctors in his practice every day.
I (and Tots) can attest to the validity of every single post. In my view, the day they made pharmacies available as drive thru was the day everything started to go to hell.
The general public is used to McDonald's, and so they think their RX's should be fast food.
What I said in my reply to one post was this:
"What if you just grab some pills, throw them in a bottle without checking or labeling them, and give them to the customer? Bet they'd run as fast as they could to the exit and never return."
Because that's what they demand, that's what they should get.
My husband once proposed getting a big bowl, and filling it with pills of all kinds, sizes and colors-then put it out in the waiting room for everyone to pick out.
I bet that would cut down on the numbers of whiny entitled assholes real quick.
I even told my boss at the time about it..he thought it would be great but he'd probably get busted for killing people..so it wasn't done. But he agreed with it enthusiastically...
Fucking YIKES. It's almost as if people can't do the simple calculus that treating people well (besides being the right thing to do) is more likely to get you what you want. But we're such a violently angry country these days.

You are my hero. Please take care of your fine self!
FSM bless you for what you’re doing. If I had to do that now, I’m sure I’d be dead or in prison.

Although the vaccines are free, the Pharmacy can bill the person's insurance or the government per vaccine. I am not sure how much it is, but if your pharmacy is making bank from it, they can also afford to get help during the fall vaccine heavy times. https://www.cms.gov/medicare/covid-19/medicare-billing-covid-19-vaccine-shot-administration

Thank you!
If you're the guy who works at my local Walmart, you are gifted. I never feel a thing...but seriously- thank you!
Also, it's ok to change course. There's never been a better time to be a job seeker.
Thank you. Self care is important
Thank you for the tireless shitstorm you have to constantly work in.
We love you!!
