FACT#1: In 2020, Texas had a 14.2% gun death rate (4,164 deaths) and IL had a 14.1% gun death rate (1,745 deaths). I'm tired of hearing that crime in Chicago is worse, while people don't look at the real numbers. Gun death by crime may be worse in Chicago, but more people are dying by guns in Texas in cases such as friendly fire, accidental shootings, suicide, etc

FACT#2: In 1996, the Republican-congress stripped any funding for gun research on behalf of the NRA. That ban is still in place, so there is no regular gun-research and better predictors.

I just called Tx D state rep Roland Gutierrez(Uvalde state rep) and thanked him for his vocal voice for the victims. I also asked him to have people in place to be the watchdogs for the donations coming in for the families and that money is not being redirected to the city of Republican city officials. I stated that I do not trust those officials and that mayor.
During today's (6/2/22), gun committee hearing Tx-R Gohmert face time his STUPID comments. No solution offered but blame democratic cities. Notice on bookshelf is a Texas flag cut out in the shape of a gun. The audacity to smear this in the face of gun victims and their families. I'm so glad he failed at his attempt for AG of Tx and is no longer a congressional representative of Texas.
Pat,
Your post is misleading. You must look at the rate per 100,000 which is clearly shown on your chart. You can't compare a huge population state against a small population state. Texas as shown on the chart falls just into the bottom half of gun deaths with over half the nation exceeding it in gun violence. Is Texas overwhelmed with rednecks? Yes, just look at the name I chose. Is Texas a red state? Yes, it has been since Dubya was elected, but that's changing in the next couple of cycles due to demographics. Once Texas is reliably blue again, with all their electoral votes, they'll be right there with California, dominating the landscape for Democrats and sanity. 29 million people don't live here because it's awful.
STUPID FUCKING INBRED REDNECKS!
