The new booster is coming out in September, I believe. Had my last one in April. This week attended a day-long community ed event, held in smallish room. Small group- all vaxed, over 50. Got COVID.
I can't imagine choosing to roll the dice without being vaxed. Yesterday was miserable, plus will have to take a week off work. I'll admit, after over 2 years without catching it, I was feeling over-confident. Even thought I might be immune. Or that maybe the risk was slightly overblown. How silly of me.
My point is, if you're feeling antsy, and doing "normal stuff" is calling to you...hold on a few more weeks till you can get that booster.
I'm working at a university and the returning profs are all reporting covid bouts from letting their hair down in the summer with huge graduation ceremonies and travelling, eating out and not wearing masks. One is down for the count with the long play version and is on leave indefinitely because she can't walk from the parking lot to her office. Daughter of co-worker got it from her boyfriend. She's epileptic and it's been a rough ride with lots of seizures. I'm starting to feel like a bit of a unicorn, 4x vaxxed with my very small social life and N95s anywhere indoors away from my HEPA-filtered workstation, but it could still get me so my guard stays up. I hope yours is short and mild. Stay safe.
Sorry you have been sick! My booster was also in April, i suspect I'll get my flu shot and Covid booster next month. I am testing every week, so far so good.
I hope you feel better soon!
ACK! I hope that it is a short and uneventful bout for you and thanks for the reminder.
I am still being way more cautious but I have my comorbidities to remind me daily that I have to be. I feel especially bad for the younger people who haven't yet lived a full and fun life... because they are just as likely to get COVID and long COVID and not get to experience a full life because they are throwing caution to the wind.
Got the 2 shot Pfizer in spring '21, a J&J in July and another in November, followed by a mild (but very unnerving) 16 day bout of Covid in January 22. It has been 9 months since my last booster so I just tried this week to get a Novavax and was told it isn't approved as a booster. Mulled that over for a day or two and tried to get a Moderna, only to be told that the CDC doesn't approve 3rd boosters. I think we all see the irony in punishing people who took this thing seriously by cutting them off from vaccination. I don't want to lie but I'm looking at having to wait a month or so for the covalent to be widely available and then "forgetting" to mention my previous J&J's. I'm hoping the situation changes for the better before then as others run into this limit, further complicated by evidence that 3rd boosters are of only short term benefit, ergo my interest in Novavax and Modernas covalent because uh, they are less like the J&J's.
My wife no doubt thinks I’m still too cautious. We also either haven’t had it yet or didn’t know when we were infected. I’m thinking it’s the former. At any rate, thanks, Ron, and hope you get to feeling better. I’m also waiting on that new booster.
